Johnson City Railroad Museum
Formerly known as the George L. Carter Railroad Museum, this institution successfully transitioned from its longtime home on the ETSU campus to a dedicated 8,000-square-foot space in downtown Johnson City in late 2024. The museum celebrates the region’s deep railroad roots, telling the story of the city’s development from its origins as "Johnson’s Depot" to a major rail hub. It is a family-friendly, interactive destination that blends historical artifacts with world-class model railroading.
