Connect Downtown Johnson City is seeking professional artists and artist teams to create original artwork for traffic control box wraps throughout Downtown Johnson City. This public art initiative will transform everyday infrastructure into vibrant works of art that celebrate creativity and enhance the downtown experience.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Traffic control boxes are part of nearly every downtown street corner. Through this public art program, they're becoming colorful landmarks that reflect the creativity and character of our community.
Connect Downtown Johnson City is commissioning original artwork to be professionally produced as vinyl wraps and installed on traffic control boxes throughout the downtown district. We invite professional artists to submit proposals that are creative, visually engaging, and designed to create a lasting impression for residents and visitors alike.

Professional artists and artist teams ages 18 and older who reside in the United States and have previous professional art or design experience.

Each selected finalist will receive a $500 honorarium for their finalized proposal.

Selected artwork will be professionally printed as vinyl wraps and installed on traffic control boxes throughout Downtown Johnson City.

Applications must be submitted by August 31, 2026 at 4:00 PM Eastern Time.

Selected finalists will be notified by September 15, 2026.

Final artwork must be submitted by October 1, 2026.
